Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture

Does acupuncture hurt?

You’ll feel an initial little prick, like a mosquito bite, then usually no sensation after that. Occasionally you’ll feel a deep, heavy, or aching feeling which isn’t painful, but rather a feeling that assures you something is happening!

What will my treatments look like?

At your first appointment we’ll talk about your full health history and then you’ll receive a treatment. This appointment will last approximately 1.5 hours. All follow up appointments after that will be 1 hour and consist of a short conversation and a treatment. Treatments may consist of acupuncture needles, cupping, food therapy, skin topicals, lifestyle coaching, and more.

How many treatments will I need?

Number of treatments depends on the severity of your symptoms and how quickly your body responds. You’ll typically want to plan for at least 4-6 weekly treatments and re-evaluate after that.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not bill to insurance, but rather we can provide you with the necessary invoices that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are rare, but can include minor bruising, bleeding, dizziness, and soreness.

What should I wear to my treatments?

Wear loose and comfortable clothing. Most needles are placed below the elbows and knees so we’ll need access to those areas. If you have pain in your shoulder, neck, or back, it’s best to bring a tank top, otherwise a hospital gown will be provided.

What do I need to do after my treatments?

In most cases you can go about your day as you normally would! If you’re coming in due to acute aches and pains, it may be advised to take it easy for a few days.

Can I talk with someone to ask if acupuncture can help my conditions?

Yes! You can call, text, email, or fill out a contact form and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Contact Us
